Getting your league started up after a cold winter in the barn can be a challenge. Use this check-list to make your life a little easier, and perhaps light a fire under some of your more reluctant volunteers.

Winter/Spring League Check List

By March 1,

Confirm returning coaches from pervious season

Held at least one League meeting

Review league expansion, (up & down)

Submit Babe Ruth Declaration of Charter Renewal

Schedule Umpire clinics with Jim Charland

Secure at least one set of Babe Ruth Softball training tapes

League budget roughed out (include tournament costs)

Submitted bids to host tournaments

By April 1,

Internal commitment for tournament team for each eligible age group

Tentative list of committed tournament coaches

Nearing completion of player registrations

League accident & liability insurance in place

Met with Middle and High school coaches (if rostering 16U teams)

Schedule roughed out

Official Babe Ruth patches ordered

Discussed inter-league play with neighboring programs

By May 1,

Team Rosters submitted to National & State Commish

Team Schedules submitted to National & State Commish

State dues paid ($7/team)

Babe Ruth ID cards ordered

Fields secured and prepped

By June 1,

Begin tournament team selection

By June 15,

Begin securing player commitments and required documentation

Waivers requested if required

All requirements met for Letters of Eligibility

Certificate of insurance in hand

No one should ever arrive at a tournament unprepared to register. Following is a recap of Babe Ruth Tournament Trail eligibility requirements.

Mandatory Tournament Documentation
Rule 11.04 DOCUMENTS, page 9 2004 BR Softball Rule Book

All documentation must be enclosed in a three ring binder and placed in the custody of the Tournament Director prior to the start of competition. Documents to be included are:

  1. Birth Documents for each player. Rule 0.04, page 6. Note: Copies of birth certificates or notarized copies are NOT acceptable! Please consult Rule.
  2. Accord Certificate of coverage of league accident insurance policy
  3. Accord Certificate of coverage of league liability insurance policy
  4. Tournament Team Roster, certified and signed by League President
  5. NEW: Coaching Certification for every coach on roster; amy coach without such will not be allowed in the dugout
  6. Babe Ruth League, Inc Letter of Eligibility (LOE) provided to you only after your league has submitted charter renewal, team rosters, league schedules, and paid any outstanding dues
  7. Consent for Treatment Forms (Starting at State Level)
  8. Tournament Champion's LOE (Starting at second level of play)
  9. Four (4) 5x7 or 8x10 team photos, with each player identified. Send one to National headquarters, one to State Host, one to Regional Host and one is kept with team tournament documentation
