Wow! Lancaster, (Lou Leaver League) WON the 2010 14U NIT held in Varina, VA.

Congratulations Lancaster!!!!! You make New Hampshire Proud.

Three From N.H. Honored by Babe Ruth Softball

Ivy Chaulke and Vanessa Lemire of the New England Regional Champion Monadnock Team were selected as Golden Glove Winners for the 12U World Series All Defensive team.

Chaulke Pitched 18 innings and caught 4, had an ERA of 0.39, recorded 12 Ks, sported a 333 batting average, scored 3 times with 4 hits including a double and triple, knocked in one, and made 7 put outs and 2 assists. She also swiped two bases which is a rarity at this level of play. In one sweltering game, she moved from pitcher to catcher which impressed everybody.
Ivy Chalke of the Monadnock, New Hampshire

team jumps in the air as a runner tried to tag home.

Lemire earned the honor by recording 12 put outs and 11 assists. At the plate she batted 333 with 2 RBIs, 3 runs, 3 hits and 3 walks for a 500 on-base percentage. She also stole 2 bases.

Very Special Honor

Our own Jim Charland received the rare and prestigious Vernon "Lefty" Gomez Award. He was selected out of more than one million listed Babe Ruth Volunteers as the Volunteer of the Year . Jim joins a select group of only 11 people who have won this award for Babe Ruth Softball since it's first award in the year 2000.

Jim was singled out for his more than a decade long dedication to Babe Ruth Softball, his amazing achievements in building one of, if not THE largest state NUA cadre of qualified umpires, plus hundreds of others serving their local leagues. It was noted that in the past 10 years, NH has sent more umpires to Softball World Series than any other state in the union. Jim runs many umpire clinics every year, has developed a beginner and advanced curriculum, and created the badly needed Index now included in the Babe Ruth Softball Rule Book. He has also been named World Series UIC several times.

************************

Lefty Gomez, a baseball hall of famer himself, was Babe Ruth's travel roommate and one of the founders of the Babe Ruth organization. He served on the board until his health failed. The award was named in his honor and is given to the top volunteers in baseball and softball.

As rare as this award is, New Hampshire volunteers have claimed the honor four times, twice each for baseball and softball. That's quite a record for a state our size.
